Max took his maiden elite World Cup win in front of a legendary home crowd as last man down the mountain.

The hillside was a sea of fans and French flags, whipped up into a frenzy as Max turned splits 3 and 4 green. The noise of chainsaws was deafening and yet still we could hear our heartbeats thumping. With the pressure of a nation of diehard downhill fans on his shoulders, Max was about to deliver the ride of his life.

The crowds broke through the barriers and surged toward the finish line behind him. He emerged from the riot as a rockstar.

It’s hard to convey in words the power and energy of this win. The raw emotion – especially in such a wild environment, and after a long streak without – was immense. We hugged a lot, and we hugged hard!

Max’s talent on the bike is unquestionable, but this week he found something more inside himself. The reward was even greater than he could have imagined.
